The Journey of Change In A Shared Environment.
For the past 12 years I have been delivering group therapy in South Auckland probation and prison sites, and this is a service I now offer through CBT Culture.
Group therapy is particularly effective for clients experiencing anxiety, depression and addictive behaviours. Joining a group of strangers may sound intimidating at first, but group therapy provides benefits that differ from individual counselling. |
So Why Consider Group Therapy?
Here are some of the advantages of participating in a structured group therapy session:
Group Therapy Helps You Realise You're Not Alone.
There is incredible reassurance in sharing your struggles with other who are experiencing the same thing. You realise that whatever you are going through is a natural part of the human condition. You are in a shared and confidential environment that is safe, secure and empowering.
Group Therapy Encourages the Giving and Receiving of Support.
You are not just in a one-on-one situation with a counsellor. The counsellor is present, but there is also a shared process of talking, listening, providing feedback and sharing a very real sense of connection and support with other group members.
Group Therapy Helps You Find Your Voice.
In a group setting, you can become aware of your own feelings and needs and learn how to express them in a safe and accepting environment. Moments of clarity and personal insight often occur in these settings and you can discover how to articulate yourself with confidence.
There is Healing in Community.
Group therapy provides a platform for shared connection, empathy and respect. Fellow participants understand what you are going through. They are going through these or similar things too. The group therapy environment also:
- Increases self-confidence and self-esteem
- Reduces depression and anxiety
- Increases socialisation and reduces isolation
- Nurtures improved relationships.
Group Therapy with CBT Culture
I provide the following topics, with each topic having 6 x 2 hour sessions each week, with each session having a specific theme and skill set provided:
- CBT - what it is and how does it work?
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Emotional management
- Addictive behaviour
Each group therapy block is a closed group. This means that once your group therapy programme has commenced, no newcomers will be joining.
Your participation does require discussion on how the topic and themes relate to you however disclosure of any intimate experiences is more suitable for individual therapy and is not required in this forum.
Confidentiality between all participants is mandatory and a written agreement will be required at first session.
Each group has a minimum of 5 and maximum of 8 participants. group therapy is great for couples, or to bring your support person along so you can learn together.
Sessions are Tuesday and Thursday 10:30 - 12:30 and 5:30 - 7:30.
I'd be happy to discuss group therapy as an option with you. Contact me for details, or register your interest below.
